Aisha Saidu, a 30-year-old woman from Gashuwa Buni Gari, has spent her life confronting hardship and struggles. Her life took a difficult turn after her father passed away, leaving her late mother, who later passed, to raise her alone. “I didn’t go to school. I am an orphan, and my mother, when alive, struggled to give me even the basics,” she reflected, her voice filled with emotion.
Life didn’t become any easier after Aisha married. She faced continuous health issues, and her husband, also vulnerable, could offer little help. She has had several days of severe illness that which she could barely get out of bed. Food insecurity weighed heavily on her as well. “What makes me happy is when I have food for my family. The saddest days are when there is nothing to eat in the house,” Aisha said, reflecting on her ongoing challenges.
A turning point came when Aisha learned about CARE and partners’ Family Planning services and essential Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) works in her community. For the first time, she felt there were people who truly understood the needs of women in her community. “Before CARE, there was no one providing these services. They have changed everything,” she added.
Aisha explained that the medical support she received from CARE went beyond basic health services. “Before CARE’s intervention, I wasn’t menstruating because of an infection. It worried me greatly,” she said. But with the treatment she received, her condition improved. “Now, I am healthy, and my cycle has returned. I am so thankful,” Aisha shared.
“I hope CARE can continue to expand these services. They have done so much for me, my family, and our community. I am no longer worried about my health, and for the first time in years, I feel hopeful.” Aisha shared as her hope for the future
Aisha has regained hope. She received not only medical support but also free SRH services and SP medications, which have made a significant difference. Her story is a testament to the resilience and strength of women facing immense hardship and the transformative power of support when it reaches those who need it most.
