Advancing Localization and Strategic Partnerships

CARE works around the globe to save lives, defeat poverty, and achieve social justice.

Working effectively with a broad variety of stakeholders and understanding their interests and ways of working is essential for the delivery of our strategy. Nigeria’s civil society is diverse but fragmented. Many organizations suffer from a lack of financial sustainability and high staff turnover, although this is changing, and some have grown into critical implementing partners for donors.

In line with CARE’s commitment to localization and its vision 2030, we will continue to build strong partnerships with local organizations and contribute to their capacity development and organizational sustainability. Our goal is to increase the number of programs executed through partners to comprise half of our portfolio by 2030. (See the Appendix for a more in-depth description of CARE Nigeria’s strategic ambitions and roles per sector. Our partnership strategy will:

  • Fine-tune our strategic ambitions and set SMART goals for partnerships and collaborations.
  • Identify and improve key financial and administrative processes to simplify or ensure greater flexibility, with partnership in mind.
  • Improve our partnership approach to align with our commitment towards localization. This includes a partner strategy that clearly details modalities for co-creation of programs with partners, funding and risk-taking relationships, and capacity building for partners where necessary, as informed by capacity needs assessments.
